Eastview will be moving forward with the One District, One Book reading program in the month of the February. One District, One Book is a program designed to create a shared reading experience across the entire school community. Our school, along with all other elementary schools in the district will all be reading the same book at the same time. All schools will follow a common schedule with every family reading the book together at home. Each student will be provided a copy of the book. Every family in the elementary school community will be reading the same book at the same time. Throughout the month of February, the schools will implement a variety of activities each day to heighten and promote interest and discussion of the book, from daily trivia questions to a school wide kick off assembly. Students will experience the story with their family and enjoy participation in the follow-up activities at school the next day. Think of the great conversations that can be had among friends on the playground, church, basketball games, etc. about READING! Neighboring towns have done this program in their schools and the students have really enjoyed it!
Mr. Matthews has asked the PTA to be involved in decorating our display case and/or hallways/classroom doors to promote the book. The book is a big secret and the students will receive clues leading up to the Kickoff day! The Kick-off assembly will be Friday, February 17th and students will be asked to read at home with their families a chapter an evening starting 2/20 - 3/5.
