Open Committee Positions
Superintendent's Report (Mr. Scott)
Avon Lake Schools has 3 emergency levys. They are all fixed levys. This is better for the district. We are also a capped district and each year we get about 2 million from the state. This is really a renewal levy. Over 80 percent of our funding comes from our own tax payers. Avon Lake won’t be getting additional monies from the state in essence because we are a thriving community. There are about 525 staff members in Avon Lake Schools. Avon Lake High School is the biggest it has been ever. Total students is about 3912. Who wants to be on the sign committee? Testing was brought up. Can we push the test dates back please? There is a window that the district is able to do the testing and they “can look at it.” Another question was brought up to at least push it back until after Labor Day. There was a clarification that MAPS tests are not the only parameter to determine advanced classes. Classes are often hot and nothing is perfect. Some of these buildings would need very major costly work to improve things. It is not that easy. Avon is behind on the calendar. The heat factor is truly up to chance. Pushing back the date sounds great although parents who have high schoolers do not like the idea of going later.
Principal's Report (Mr. Franko)
Boys scout representative will be coming into the school. The Best Effort Assembly will be kicking off. PBIS: Positive Behavior Intervention Support is something the guidance counselor is implementing. We are doing best effort bracelets and will be choosing two children per class instead of only one child. Mumsters Fundraiser will be kicking off August 31st. Kindergarten readiness assessment is approaching. It is a long assessment and other testing will be occurring. The teachers have a testing window. The Super Bowl food drive is a contest with Avon. Peanut Butter weighs more than other items. It is due September 7th. Homecoming is approaching. Buildings will be open for the bicentennial after the parade. The behavior chart is under review.
President's Report (Megan DeVere)
Megan thanked everyone and referenced the packets that are on hand for review. She introduced some new faces in the group. Kim is still our treasurer. There are tax exempts forms available because Eastview does not reimburse tax on items. Please send a text or email if your request is in the mailbox. Christina is running the facebook and the remind accounts.
Treasurer's Report (Kim Snavely)
We ended the year at about 17,000 over budget. The playground is completely paid for. In addition, all of the items in the library is paid for. The specials teachers also got some new equipment. Everything has been audited and the new year technically begins in July. If you feel your budget is not enough please send an email by August 31st. We need some people to fill some of the open committee spots.
Lisa Sheehan discussed the actual facts about the Levys. Avon just accomplished it and so can we! Basically we will need people to distribute signs, be on a committee, be on the social media to help keep information correct. People on sites are misinformed often and spout out information that is not accurate.
