Elena West, Avon Lake Big Kid’s Closet. It is Oct.1 and you can reserve a spot to sell clothing, etc for kids 5-12.
Thank you for Eastview Parent Social- it was great, lots of new families and something we will do again.
Principal’s Report: Mr. Matthews
Review of items:
Power School is the hub for report cards, grades and access has opened up for 3rd and 4th grade students; K-2 opens in second semester. One login per family. There is an app for phones as well that works really, really well.
Avon Lake City Schools has an app.
Lots of feedback on the website and they are working through things and we are welcome to suggestions.
WOW is back. Partnered with Cleveland Clinic again and the walking program will be widely publicized again. It will happen each Wednesday in October. The Clinic provides help with the kick-off assemblies and they provide a monetary amount. K-8 will be participating, approximately 3,000 people.
Partnering with Planet-Aide this year. They will provide bins and we will be collecting shoes on the last day of WOW. They will ship nice shoes to impoverished parts of the world; old shoes will be recycled to make playground equipment.
Working with maintenance department to create more walking trails through the woods, as well as a fitness trail.
New project in all 4 elementary schools, One School, One Book. In February, every child, K-4 will get the same exact book provided to them. For two weeks, everyone will get a chance to read the same book. Geared to increase family engagement in reading. There will be class discussions, giveaways, etc...PTA may be pulled into this at some point, as there may be someone who wants to help and get involved.
Question: “Are the 4th graders ready for online math in 5th grade?” Mr. Matthews says Eastview believes in a blended approach, that not all of the work should/can be one in one place. Of course, he wants to be sure 4th grade students are prepared for the 5th grade math model. The math program is well-designed for online learning.
VIE sign-up stations will be updated soon. An email about VIE info will be sent out soon.
